Yaletown Pilates Studio

About Pilates

Pilates is a mind and body fitness regime combining flexibility, strength and coordination to the whole body. Using mats and specialized equipment, there are more than 500 resistance exercises beneficial for rehabilitation, injury prevention, postural alignment and overall fitness. While focusing on core stability and efficiency of movement, the programs are created to meet the needs and abilities of each individual by encouraging body awareness.

Client Testimonial

I began doing pilates once a week about 7 months ago and have been practicing it twice a week for the past month. I can't believe the change that has taken place in such a short amount of time! As a dance artist and instructor, I spend my days being physical and have noticed more length in my body, more release in my hip flexors and a deeper awareness of my core strength. I also feel a greater awareness of my back and my whole body feels more integrated and efficient. The Space offers a beautiful and peaceful environment and the instructors have guided me while allowing for personal discovery.

At The Space Vancouver we offer:

Customized Group Pilates Reformer Programs

Group Reformer work is performed on specialized equipment with 4 - 5 students per teacher. Each student will develop a specialized program so that their workout is completely tailored to ones needs. It is ideal for people of all levels as well as a great form of rehabilitation. Before joining these group classes, 5 private sessions with a teacher is required to build a suitable program. We recommend students to take a private class every 4 months to make appropriate changes to individual workout programs.

Led Group Pilates Reformer Exercises

Led Group Reformer work is performed on specialized equipment with 4 –6 students per teacher. Unlike the group reformer classes, these sessions are based on everyone doing the same exercises flowing from one exercise to the next. 5 privates are required for new students to familiarize each student with the equipment, modifications and variations of basic exercises. See classes schedule for times available.

Pilates and Rehabilitation

At The Space Vancouver, we recognize the importance of taking Pilates out of the studio so that we can affect positive change in our daily lives. Poor postural habits from extended periods of sitting and driving contribute to misalignment, cause discomfort and pain, and lead to future injuries.

Pilates takes a holistic approach to wellness, emphasizing head, neck, trunk and spinal alignment in order to bring a state of harmony to the body. While working to correct imbalances and strengthen chronic weaknesses, the exercises are easily modifiable to fit all levels, including those suffering from neurological impairments, chronic pain, arthritis, osteoporosis, and movement dysfunction. Pilates helps to develop the body awareness and strength we need to find well-being in our everyday lives.

Mat Pilates Classes

Mat work is a series of progressive exercises focusing on abdominal muscles, strength and flexibility. This does not require specialized equipment and can be done at home. These sessions are by registration only, generally in 8-week intervals.
