GYROTONIC ® and GYROKENESIS ® Exercises
At The Space Vancouver
Our Yaletown studio offers certified teachers in both GYROTONIC ® and GYROKENESIS ® Practice.
GYROTONIC® from the word “gyro” (meaning ring, spiral or circle) and "tonic" (to tone or invigorate), is a way of increasing range of motion, coordination, and strength by performing circular motions. Based on the principles of swimming, ballet, yoga and chi kung it works the body as an integrated whole, exercising the musculature of the body while mobilizing and articulating the joints. Using both flexibility and strength, it increases range of motion and develops coordination. The motions patterns are natural, turbulence free with no pure interruption, creating a bridge between contraction and extension through the rotating movement of the joints, resulting in balanced support system for the skeleton. Many athletes such as golfers and dancers uses this as a primary source of well being. This works for anyone wanting to gain strength, flexibility and coordination.
The GYROTONIC® equipment is designed to become an extension of the body, allowing freedom of movement with no restriction to speed or versatility. The movement is non-linear and non-isolated, mimicking the healthy resistance of water. GYROTONIC® exercises are synchronized with corresponding breath and rhythm. They work to create a polarity of forces using the concept of stabilization through contrast. The movement is very natural and organic, with a flowing circularity.
There are many benefits to GYROTONIC® as well. It is good for both injury prevention and rehabilitation. Its often-cardiovascular exercises aid in organ function, increase blood circulation, strengthen the nervous system and promote a healthy spine and joints. It also helps to rid the body of toxins and opens the meridian system to create harmony and balance in the flow of energy.
Client Testimonial
| “Two years ago, I started taking pilates classes at the Space with intention of developing the flexibility I needed to improve my golf swing. The excellent and attentive staff at the Space really helped me. Over time, my posture improved and I noticed my golf swing became more fluid. Since then, and after reading that Tiger Woods regularly worked out on the Gyrotonics, I signed up for some classes on the machine. It was amazing. After only a few sessions, I found I could go even further through my exercises than with the pilates. While I’m a rank amateur golfer, I’m hitting the ball further and straighter. From my experience, virtually every aspect of the exercise helps to works on my flexibility which leads to a greater range of motion. In many respects, the movements are exactly like the golf swing. I can now see why Tiger works out on the Gyrotonic. While I have no expectation of ever hitting a golf ball like Tiger, at least when I step off this machine, I have a sensation of how the Gyrotonic really can benefit golfers of all levels. In my view, the people at the Space really know what they are doing and the results are tremendous. ~ Bob Glass, Vancouver |
